District iv HONOR BAND ASSOCIATION

The purpose of this organization is to organize and conduct the District IV Honor Bands and to provide the opportunity for all students to audition and participate in one of two middle school honor bands or two high school honor bands.  Students of LMEA members who actively participate in auditions, meetings, and the Honor Band weekend are eligible to audition.  ​Additionally, if the student attends a school that has a band program, he or she MUST be a member of the band at the school.

Band Director MeetingS 2025-2026

  • Tuesday, November 11th at Walker High School at 6:30pm
    • Directors must attend in order to have students participate in the Honor Band weekend.  All registration forms and audition payments are due at this meeting.
  • Friday, January 30th at 2:00 p.m. at SELU during Honor Band weekend

Auditions 2025-2026

1st-Round Audition Information 
  • ​$10 fee which covers both rounds
  • Audition recordings are due by November 20th
    • ​Audition Instructions
      • ​Student videos should be uploaded by an "Unlisted" YouTube video.  Each school's director will collect the YouTube links from students and submit them for audition by 11/20.  School directors are recommended to collect links from their students by 11/18 to ensure that they can submit them on 11/20. 
    • Instructions for uploading a video
      • Go to YouTube.  You will need to be logged in.  Chrome defaults to this as part of the google login.
      • On Laptop/Desktop: Click on the camera button with a plus sign near the top right corner of the window.  The word "Create" will appear when you hover over it with mouse.
      • On phone/tablet: Click the “+” sign at the bottom of the screen when you open app.
      • Select "Upload video" & use the "Upload videos" interface to upload your video.
        Name it: Instrument Last Name.First Name
      • Before publishing, select "unlisted"
      • ​​Once file has completed publishing, copy the link and send it to your band director. 
      • Directors will submit links to videos to District for judging.
  • Audition music can be found here for middle school & here for high school
  • November 20th - Directors submit links to each of their students' videos via a google form.
  • December 3rd- Results posted from 1st-Round auditions
Middle School 1st-Round Audition Requirements
  • Woodwind & Brass: Bb & F concert scales and chromatic, and etude
    Percussion: Set III keyboard & snare etude, buzz roll, single paradiddles
High School 1st-Round Audition Requirements
  • Woodwind & Brass 2025-26: A, D, G major scales chromatic & both Set III etudes with district cuts
    Percussion 2025-26 - Set III Snare & Keyboard etude, closed roll, Set III flam rudiment, & 4-mallet exercise
2nd-Round Audition Information
  • Saturday, December 13, 2025
  • Denham Springs Junior High School, 401 Hatchel Lane
            *Avoid Range Ave., as there is a parade in Denham the same day*
  • No audition fee! 
  • Students will have a pre-registered audition time. There will be no changes to auditions times unless there has been a mistake on the Association's part. The schedule will be delivered via email to the respective schools.
Middle School 2nd-Round Audition Requirements
  • WW/Brass 25-26: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab concert scales, chromatic, Set III etude, and sight reading
  • Perc: buzz roll, alternating flams, single paradiddles, C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab major scales, Set III snare etude, set III  keyboard etude
High School 2nd-Round Audition Requirements
  • WW/Brass 25-26: Eb, Ab, A, D, G major scales, chromatic, both Set III All-State etudes with district cuts, sight reading
  • Perc 25-26: Set III All-state rudiments, scales, 4 mallet exercise, snare etude, keyboard etude, timpani etude, sight reading on keyboard and snare

Getting to the Auditions CAUTION!
Auditions are at 
Denham Springs Junior High School, 401 Hatchel Lane.  There is a Christmas parade the same afternoon as auditions. It should not impact the audition process in any way as long as we avoid travelling on Range Ave.  Please follow the map and/or the written directions.

  1. Exit I-12 at Exit 10 - Range Avenue; head North
  2. Take an immediate right onto Rushing Rd.
  3. At the end of Rushing Road take a left onto Pete’s Hwy
  4. Take Pete’s Hwy across Florida Blvd and it changes name to Hatchel Ln
  5. Denham Springs Junior High School is on the left shortly after the railroad crossing.
  6. Once you arrive on campus there will be lots of signage to help you navigate the campus.

​Audition Reminders
  • Students should plan to audition at their scheduled time.  No one will be allowed to "jump in" line.
  • Students should arrive approx. 30 minutes before their scheduled time to check-in and warm-up
  • Directors should arrive around 8:00 am to help 
  • Percussionists should supply their own mallets 
  • Directors should let us know ASAP is you have a student planning to not attend 
  • Many audition rooms are split, students should plan to play in 2 rooms, for example:
    • High School – Etudes in one room, Scales & Sightreading in another
    • Middle School – Etude & Sightreading in one room, Scales in another

      • Concerts will begin at 10:00 AM and are subject to change based on venue, however, this is how we have done it in the past:

        • High School Concert Band 12:00 PM
        • High School Symphonic Band 1:00 PM

Student Rules and REgulations

Student Dress
All students in each band will wear their representative school band uniform on the day of the concert. Appropriate dress will be worn where no uniform exists.

Student Behavior
All students of the Honor Band are expected to abide by the Rules and Regulations listed below as well as following the instructions given by the working Band Directors and other persons of authority.

Rules and Regulations for Participating Individuals
  • Teachers will present only students who are not discipline problems for auditions.
  • Students and parents are to be notified that Honor Band authority and responsibility extends until the student is released to return home.
  • Students failing to adhere to rehearsal and performance regulations and schedules are subject to dismissal.
  • Vandalism of any kind will bring immediate dismissal and the student and the school will be held responsible for any damages.
  • Possession of any legally controlled substance without proper written authority (Doctor's Prescription) or the consumption or possession of any psychologically active substance for non-medical use (including alcoholic beverages) will lead to immediate dismissal.
  • In case of disciplinary action taken by the Executive Committee, the Director, Parents, and the Principal involved will be
  • notified immediately.
  • Any student dismissed from Honor Band will be prohibited from participating in this Honor Band Organization the following year.
  • There shall be one (1) chaperone for every ten (10) students attending from your school.  Example: 26 students require 3 chaperones.  A responsible adult shall be in attendance at all times for each school participating in the Honor Band Weekend.
  • Students must be present for and participate in 100% of all rehearsals and performances in order to participate in the honor band weekend.
