ARRIVAL, DROP-OFF AND PARKING
  • Zachary High School is located at 4100 Bronco Ln, Zachary, LA 70791
  • Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to warm up.
  • If approaching campus via Highway 964/Highway 64, use the first entrance to the school (before the sign). If you are approaching from the Highway 19/Highway 64 direction or the Plank Road/Highway 64 direction, use the second entrance to the school (after the sign). The Visual and Performing Arts Building will be the first building on the right.
  • Busses can park in the bus lane in front of the building.  Cars should park in the small parking lot across from the Visual and Performing Arts Building.  Use the stadium lot as an overflow if we run out of bus space in the bus lane.
  • If you have an equipment trailer with large special equipment for the performance, there is stage access on the backside of the building.  Turn right once you have passed the building, you take the first driveway on the right, and that gives you access to the stage. Once unloaded, the trailers will need to be parked at the back of the stadium lot so that others may have access to the stage if needed
  • The bus lane has to be clear between 1:45 and 2:30.  If you were planning to arrive during this time, you need to either arrive earlier than or later than that time window.
  • Once you have arrived on campus, the Director must check-in at the front desk before moving students inside the building.  Please have with you:
3 copies of the set-up chart
3 original scores for each selection, measures numbered.
WITHOUT THIS, YOU WILL NOT GET COMMENTS OR A RATING.
Let us know if you have changed any of the selections
  • Please be aware that school is in session during this festival and that your group should be respectful of the site.  Please DO NOT allow students to play on instruments outside of the performance and warm-up areas.
  • Reminder that we DO NOT have storage available for cases. All cases will need to remain on busses.

PROCEDURE
  • Director check-in.
  • Leave cases on busses/trailers.
  • Approximately 15 minutes before warm-up, line students up outside of warm-up room.  STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MAKE SOUNDS ON THEIR INSTRUMENTS OUTSIDE OF THE WARM-UP ROOM.  REFRAIN FROM TALKING IN THE HALLWAY.  Any parents you have with you can go into the theatre at this time.
  • We will not have many stands in the warm-up room so be prepared for this.
  • You will be asked to move from the warm-up room 5 minutes before your performance time.
  • Once on stage, it is okay to do a short scale/chorale/sound check before your group is announced.
  • Between selections, it is not necessary to wait on the judge’s signal to continue on.
  • Immediately after performing, each group is to remain seated for a group picture.  *Please share the picture order information with your students.
  • Groups will be led from the stage to the Sight-Reading Room.  This is officially a closed room, spectators not directly connected with the performing group are not permitted in, unless requested by the director.
    • Any staff that works with your students on a regular basis (i.e., assistant band directors, student teachers, team teachers, etc.) are allowed to quietly coach individuals/sections during the 8-minute discussion period.  However, any group instruction must come from the director on the podium.  These staff members must step away at the end of the 8-minute period.  Please ask if you need clarification on this.
  • The LMEA website has a great explanation on the 8 minute process in Sight-Reading, found here: https://www.lmeamusic.org/assessments/vocal-district-large-ensemble-assessment/band-sight-reading-requirements/
  • After Sight-Reading, bands are dismissed.  They may either enter the Theatre to watch other groups perform, or depart.
  • Food, drink, candy, and gum are not allowed inside the theater.
  • Directors can receive their scores and comments at the check-in table.  Results are not officially posted until the director receives the ratings first.
